The rise and fall of Anita Among - A story of power, wealth and political reckoning
Former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among.

BUKEDEA, Uganda — Security operatives from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) have widened ongoing investigations into former Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among, extending search operations to her parents’ residence in Apopong Sub-county following earlier raids at her properties in Kamutur Sub-county.

Sources familiar with the operation said security teams arrived in Apopong on Friday, hours after conducting an extended search at Among’s residence in Kamutur, where detectives reportedly spent several hours combing through the property.

The purpose and outcome of the latest search were not immediately clear, and authorities had not issued an official statement by press time.

Expanding multi-site investigation

The Apopong operation is the latest in a growing series of coordinated searches targeting properties linked to the former Speaker, amid allegations of illicit enrichment, unexplained wealth accumulation and suspected money laundering.

Earlier in the week, CID officers also searched Among’s former office at Parliament, where investigators were seen inside the premises for several hours. The exact scope of what they were examining has not been disclosed.

No formal charges have been filed against Among so far.

High-value asset seizures under scrutiny

The parliamentary office search followed a high-profile operation on Monday in which a luxury Rolls-Royce Cullinan was seized from her Kigo residence in Wakiso District.

The vehicle, reportedly registered under Anita Foundation Limited, was loaded onto a Uganda Police low-bed carrier and transported under heavy security involving CID detectives, UPDF personnel, and other intelligence units.

Investigators have also previously searched properties linked to Among in Nakasero, Ntinda, and Kigo, reportedly recovering documents, electronic devices, and other materials believed to be relevant to the inquiry.

Scrutiny over luxury assets and wealth declarations

The seized Rolls-Royce Cullinan, valued in the billions of shillings, previously drew public attention after it was reportedly described as a personal gift from associates.

While authorities have not confirmed whether the vehicle is being treated as suspected proceeds of crime, security sources say investigators are mapping high-value assets linked to Among as part of a broader financial probe.

Legal trigger and ongoing probe

The investigation is understood to stem from a complaint lodged with the Inspectorate of Government over alleged breaches of the Leadership Code Act, including failure to fully declare assets and possible accumulation of unexplained wealth.

Officials have not publicly detailed the full scope of the allegations, but sources indicate that the probe now spans multiple properties and involves forensic review of financial records, electronic devices, and asset ownership structures.

As the inquiry expands, authorities have maintained silence on possible charges, while the widening searches suggest a deeper effort to establish financial trails and ownership links across Among’s known and associated properties.
