KAMPALA, UGANDA — The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of Uganda, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has announced the appointment of Brigadier General Alex Opolot Olupot as the new Commandant of the National Defence College Uganda (NDC-U) located in Jinja.

Brigadier General Olupot, who previously served in the Joint Staff Training and Doctrine, succeeds Major General Francis Okello who is scheduled to retire later this year after a distinguished career.

He has held the position of founding Commandant since the NDC-U’s establishment in 2022, marking the inauguration of this advanced military education and strategic training institution.

In a related development, the CDF also appointed Brigadier General Micheal Kabango, the Chief of Staff Land Forces, as the new Commandant of the Senior Command and Staff College (SCSC) Kimaka, also situated in Jinja.

Brigadier General Kabango takes over from Major General George Igumba, who is also proceeding on retirement later this year.

Major Generals Francis Okello and George Igumba have dedicated over four decades to exemplary military service, during which they held numerous significant command and staff positions.

Their careers reflect a progression through all levels of professional military education, serving as “stellar examples for upcoming officers due to their resilience and dedication.” The UPDF fraternity extends its best wishes to both Generals in their upcoming retirement.

Furthermore, the UPDF congratulates Brigadier Generals Alex Opolot Olupot and Micheal Kabango on their “well-deserved appointments.”

The defense forces express confidence that these senior officers “possess the capability to elevate UPDF’s elite training colleges to the next level.”
