NAIROBI, Kenya — The remains of the late former Lugari Member of Parliament (MP), Cyrus Jirongo, have been transferred to the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi for preservation.

The body arrived at the facility shortly before noon on Saturday, where it was received by a somber gathering of family members, close friends, and political associates.

The veteran politician perished in the early hours of Saturday, December 13, 2025, following a catastrophic road accident at the Karai area along the Nakuru–Naivasha highway.

The mechanics of the fatal collision

According to a detailed police report, Jirongo was driving his Mercedes-Benz saloon car toward Nairobi when the accident occurred.

The collision involved a passenger bus belonging to the Climax Sacco, which was traveling in the opposite direction.

The driver of the bus provided a firsthand account of the moments leading up to the impact, suggesting that the former MP had just exited a nearby petrol station before the fatal encounter.

The driver alleged that Jirongo’s vehicle remained in the wrong lane, purportedly in an attempt to bypass a local traffic snarl-up.

Narrating the ordeal to the police, the bus driver stated:

“He left the petrol station and joined the highway, but did not give way. He came straight towards me, and we collided head-on. I tried to swerve, but I felt like my bus would roll, so I slammed the brakes, and he came straight and hit the bus.”

Transition to Nairobi

Authorities confirmed that Jirongo died instantly upon impact. His body was initially moved to the Naivasha Sub-County Mortuary by responding officers.

However, by Saturday morning, the family initiated the transfer to Nairobi to facilitate further procedures and funeral arrangements.

The wreckage of the Mercedes-Benz, which was severely damaged, remains at the Naivasha Police Station as investigators work to reconstruct the scene and verify the circumstances of the crash.

Cyrus Jirongo, who was 64 at the time of his death, leaves behind a massive legacy in Kenyan politics, ranging from his influential leadership of the YK’92 movement to his service as a Cabinet Minister and legislator.
