NAIROBI, Kenya — Police have arrested a 47-year-old man in Kibra, Nairobi, after his nine-year-old daughter allegedly suffered severe physical and sexual assault and later died from her injuries.
The incident occurred on Sunday 6, September 2026 after officers at Kibra Police Station received a distress call reporting that the child had been seriously assaulted.
Police, accompanied by members of the community policing team, responded to the scene but were informed that the suspect had already taken the critically injured girl to Mbagathi Hospital, apparently seeking medical treatment.
Officers followed them to the hospital, where they were informed that the child had been pronounced dead on arrival.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), a preliminary examination of the girl’s body revealed multiple bruises and swellings, as well as a recently lost upper incisor tooth.
Further examination indicated that the child had also been sexually assaulted, the DCI said.
The girl’s body was transferred to the Nairobi Funeral Home, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination to establish the precise circumstances and cause of death.
Suspect in custody
The suspect was arrested and remains in police custody as detectives continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
Investigators are expected to establish what happened before the girl’s death and gather evidence for possible prosecution.
The DCI said it was treating the case with the seriousness it deserved and extended its condolences to the bereaved family.
“The DCI extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and stands with them in this moment of profound grief,” the agency said.

The agency also condemned violence and abuse against children, warning that such acts constitute serious violations of the law.
“Such acts are a grave violation of the law and a betrayal of the trust and protection every child deserves,” the DCI said.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the suspect has not been convicted of any offence. Any criminal liability will be determined through the judicial process.
The DCI said it would continue pursuing cases involving violence and abuse against children and that lawful action would be taken against anyone found culpable.
