MACHAKOS, Kenya — Police in Machakos have arrested a primary school teacher accused of sexually abusing a pupil who was under his care.
The teacher is being held at Tala Police Station as detectives continue investigating the allegations before he is presented in court.
According to an incident report, the alleged abuse began in 2022, when the boy was 14 years old and a Class Eight pupil at Kwatombe Primary School.
The teacher, who was serving as an examination invigilator, is accused of repeatedly abusing the pupil over a prolonged period and threatening him with unspecified consequences if he disclosed what had happened.
Police also allege that the teacher gave the boy gifts, including mobile phones and cash, and took him on outings during the period in which the alleged abuse occurred.
The matter came to light after the boy fell ill and sought treatment at Nguluni Health Centre. Medical personnel reportedly identified sexually transmitted infections, prompting further inquiries into the circumstances surrounding his condition.
Investigators subsequently linked the reported infections to the alleged abuse, leading to further investigations and the teacher’s arrest.
Matungulu OCPD Peter Gichohi confirmed the arrest, saying several reports had corroborated allegations of abuse by the teacher.

The boy, who is an orphan, is receiving medical attention as police continue gathering evidence.
Police are expected to present the suspect in court once investigations are complete.
The allegations against the teacher have not been tested in court, and he remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
The case highlights the vulnerability of children under the care of adults in positions of authority and the importance of reporting suspected abuse through appropriate child-protection and law-enforcement channels.
