Blogger feared dead after being run over by Uganda Prisons van at Ggaba murder hearing

KAMPALA, Uganda — An online blogger is recovering in hospital after being critically injured in an incident involving a vehicle belonging to the Uganda Prisons Service, which was transporting a suspect in a high-profile child murder case.

The victim, identified as Ronald Mulwana, operates a TikTok account under the name PL on TV.

The incident occurred at Ggaba Community Church Grounds in Makindye Division, where a mobile court session linked to the killing of four children was scheduled to take place.

According to initial reports, a Toyota Hiace van carrying murder suspect Christopher Okello Onyum was reversing on a slope when its brakes appeared to fail.

A video clip circulating online shows security personnel scrambling out of the vehicle’s path as it rolled backwards uncontrollably. The van eventually came to a stop at the bottom of the slope, but only after running over Mulwana.

He sustained severe head injuries and lost consciousness at the scene. Witnesses said his body was briefly trapped beneath the vehicle before being dragged to the front.

Mulwana was rushed to hospital in a Uganda Police Force vehicle as colleagues and bystanders looked on.

At the time of the incident, court proceedings had not yet begun, with officials still preparing the venue.

Authorities have yet to issue a detailed statement on the circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether mechanical failure has been confirmed or if further investigations will be launched.

The case involving Christopher Okello Onyum has drawn widespread public attention following the killing of four young children in Ggaba earlier this month.

The suspect has since pleaded not guilty, with the case being handled through a mobile court session amid heightened public interest and security presence.

The incident involving Mulwana has further intensified scrutiny around the handling of the proceedings and safety measures at such high-risk public events.

Medical officials have not publicly disclosed the blogger’s current condition in detail, but sources indicate he remains under close observation.

Authorities are expected to provide further updates as investigations into the incident continue.
