KAMPALA, Uganda — The government has moved to shut down New Best Hotel in Busega over allegations linked to pornography-related activities, warning that tougher enforcement measures will be taken if the establishment fails to comply with national laws.
The warning was issued by the Pornography Control Committee, chaired by Annet Kezaabu, which said the facility had repeatedly been cautioned over reports suggesting it was facilitating or enabling the production of explicit content.
According to the committee, engagement has been ongoing with the hotel’s management, but concerns remain unresolved.
“We have engaged and warned the management several times. If there is no change, stronger enforcement action will be taken, including possible closure,” the committee said in a statement.
Authorities allege that New Best Hotel in Busega has been flagged in connection with activities suspected to involve the facilitation of commercial sex and the production of explicit material, claims that fall under Uganda’s broader anti-pornography enforcement framework.
Officials say the latest action forms part of a wider nationwide crackdown targeting establishments believed to be promoting or enabling pornography, with government insisting that enforcement will be applied without exception.

The committee further warned that such environments are often associated with broader social risks, including exploitation and exposure of minors and young people to harmful content.
The development comes amid intensified regulatory operations across both physical and digital spaces, with the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) separately carrying out enforcement against online platforms accused of distributing explicit material.
Authorities have linked the ongoing operations to the implementation of the National Ethical Values Policy, which is intended to reinforce moral standards and safeguard vulnerable groups, particularly children, from exposure to harmful content.
Government has reiterated that all individuals and business operators must adhere to existing laws, warning that continued violations may result in closure, prosecution, or other legal sanctions.
