Stoopid Boy burial halted by court amid family dispute
A court order has halted the burial of Arbantone musician Stoopid Boy amid a dispute over his final resting place.

NAIROBI, Kenya — The burial of Kenyan Arbantone musician Edgar, popularly known as Stoopid Boy, has been halted by a court order amid a family dispute over where the late artist should be laid to rest.

The court intervention came on the scheduled burial day, throwing the musician’s final send-off into uncertainty as members of his family remain divided over his final resting place.

Stoopid Boy died on August 27, 2026, triggering an outpouring of grief from fans and fellow musicians. His death was followed by a disagreement between members of his paternal and maternal families over where his remains should be buried.

His father, George William Ochieng Awili, has maintained that his son should be buried at the family’s ancestral home in Alego, Siaya.

Ochieng has said Stoopid Boy had expressed his wish to be buried in Siaya before his death and that the family should honour that request.

“I just want to fulfil my son’s wishes. He told me, my dad, if I die, take me to my home in Siaya,” Ochieng said in an earlier appeal concerning the burial arrangements.

Family divided over burial site

The dispute emerged after members of the musician’s maternal family reportedly favoured Nyandarua as the burial location.

The disagreement intensified as funeral preparations got underway, with relatives unable to reach consensus on where the musician’s body should be taken.

A family friend, Moses, said Stoopid Boy had previously communicated his preference to be buried at his father’s home in Siaya.

The dispute also affected arrangements for funeral contributions.

Ochieng recently said the family had stopped receiving contributions through a Paybill number that had been circulated for the funeral, citing the unresolved disagreement over the burial.

The musician’s uncle, Eric Odhiambo, said the two sides of the family needed to come together and agree on the arrangements before the process could proceed.

Court steps in

The latest development has now shifted the dispute from a family disagreement to a legal matter.

A court order reportedly stopped the burial on the scheduled burial day, preventing the family from proceeding with the planned final rites.

The precise terms of the order and the next steps in the case will determine when and where the musician can ultimately be buried.

The intervention also means earlier burial plans are now on hold pending further directions from the court.

Stoopid Boy’s final journey delayed

The burial dispute has added another difficult chapter to the aftermath of Stoopid Boy’s death.

The musician had emerged as one of the recognisable names in Kenya’s fast-growing Arbantone scene and gained widespread attention through songs including “G Baga Jat”, which helped establish his profile among younger Kenyan music audiences.

His death sparked tributes across the entertainment industry, but the focus has since shifted to the disagreement surrounding his final resting place.

For his family, the immediate challenge is now to resolve the dispute through the court process and reach an agreement that allows the musician’s burial to proceed.
