Kenyan Arbantone musician Stoopid Boy reportedly dies
Kenyan Arbantone artist Stoopid Boy, best known for his hit song “G Baga Jat,” has reportedly died. Details surrounding his reported death remain unclear.

NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenyan Arbantone musician Edgar, popularly known as Stoopid Boy, has reportedly died, according to emerging reports circulating on Thursday, August 27, 2026.

The circumstances surrounding his reported death had not been independently confirmed by the time of publication.

Stoopid Boy rose to prominence during the rapid expansion of Kenya’s Arbantone movement through his breakout song “G Baga Jat,” also known as “G Bag Na Jug.” Released in 2024, the track became one of the notable entries in a Christopher Birch riddim challenge that also featured artists including Maandy, Mejja and YBW Smith.

The song later received a remix featuring established and emerging Kenyan artists, including Mejja, Breeder LW, Gody Tennor and Spoiler, further cementing Stoopid Boy’s place in the rapidly evolving music scene.

Arbantone emerged as one of Kenya’s most prominent youth-oriented musical movements, drawing from Gengetone, dancehall and older Kenyan and Jamaican riddims while gaining significant traction through social media, streaming platforms and dance challenges.

Music career amid personal struggles

Stoopid Boy’s rise to prominence came against the backdrop of significant personal and economic challenges.

In 2024, the musician was reported to be living in difficult conditions in Riverbank, an informal settlement associated with Gotta City, even as his music was gaining national attention.

His personal struggles subsequently became part of his public story.

In February 2025, Stoopid Boy opened up about his long-running battle with alcohol and substance abuse, saying the problem had affected him for years. He linked his drinking habits to his family background, saying he traced the pattern to his grandfather, whom he described as an alcoholic.

The musician later checked into a rehabilitation programme, spending about three months undergoing treatment.

He had announced his intention to change his lifestyle and thanked comedian Oga Obinna, who had offered to help him enter rehabilitation.

Stoopid Boy also spoke about difficulties in his personal life, including the breakdown of his marriage after his wife left him.

In an interview with Obinna TV, the G Bag Na Jug hitmaker spoke about his desire to reform and begin a new chapter in his life. He also publicly embraced his Christian faith as part of his efforts to turn his life around.

The rehabilitation period became another chapter in a career that had already attracted considerable attention because of the contrast between his growing popularity and his struggles away from the stage.

Beyond ‘G Baga Jat’

Although “G Baga Jat” remained his best-known song, Stoopid Boy continued to be associated with the Arbantone movement and released or featured on several other tracks.

Among the songs associated with him between 2024 and 2025 were “Gangster Lover,” “Sangwangwa,” “Sherehe,” “Mareka” and “Wacha Masteam.”

His music career reflected the grassroots character of Arbantone, a genre that gave young Kenyan artists a platform to build audiences through locally produced sounds, social media and street culture.

Stoopid Boy’s breakthrough also demonstrated how quickly artists could gain national recognition outside the traditional structures of Kenya’s music industry.

His journey from difficult living conditions to national recognition made him a recognisable figure among a generation of young Kenyan music fans.

A life beyond the music

The reported death comes after a period in which Stoopid Boy had publicly discussed his struggles and efforts to rebuild his life.

His decision to seek rehabilitation in 2025 had generated considerable public interest, particularly because it followed his emergence as a prominent voice in the Arbantone scene.

For many of his followers, his story extended beyond his music. It was also one of personal difficulties, attempts at recovery and a public determination to change.

The musician’s best-known track, “G Baga Jat,” helped establish his name during a period when Arbantone was rapidly gaining ground among Kenyan youth.

Death report awaits official confirmation

The reported death of Stoopid Boy was circulating on Thursday, August 27, but details surrounding the circumstances remained unclear.

There was no independently verified information available at the time of publication regarding the cause, location or circumstances of his reported death.

Confirmation from his family, management or another authoritative source is awaited.

Until such confirmation is made, details surrounding the reported death remain subject to verification.

If confirmed, Stoopid Boy’s death would mark the loss of one of the artists associated with the early wave of Kenya’s Arbantone movement and a musician whose best-known song helped define a distinctive period in the country’s rapidly changing youth music culture.
