NAIROBI, Kenya — Police in Nairobi are continuing their investigation into the mysterious death of Zaituni Kavaya, a domestic worker who died at a building where she was employed in Kilimani. The probe has intensified after a video, obtained by a local publication, emerged, shedding light on the moments before the incident.

The development comes a day after Kavaya’s family received postmortem results indicating that she died from blunt force trauma. While the circumstances of her death remain under investigation, the video footage has provided a clearer picture.

In the video, a man is seen on the fifth floor briefly holding the woman before releasing her. She then navigates her way to the floor below, where she appears to speak with three women before continuing her descent to the third floor.

The situation appears to deteriorate on the third floor, where the woman is seen conversing with unidentified individuals before the final moments of her life. The area is noted to be enclosed with glass panels, offering her no place to hold on. The footage captures the woman in a blue outfit with distinct red and black blotches.

In response to the incident, Zaituni’s family and members of the domestic workers’ union staged a protest on Wednesday 24, September 2025, marching from her home in Kibera to the Kilimani site of her death. They later met with the Kilimani police commander to demand a comprehensive investigation.

The police commander, Patricia Yegon, confirmed that the case remains a high priority for investigators.

“We have this case, and we are still investigating. Zaituni will get her justice,” she stated.

All eyes are now on the ongoing police investigation to determine the full sequence of events that led to Zaituni Kavaya’s death.
