NAIROBI, Kenya — President William Ruto has called on Kenyans to embrace unity, love, and renewed faith as Christians across the country mark the Easter holiday.

In his Easter message, the President reflected on the significance of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, describing the season as a powerful reminder of hope, renewal, and new beginnings.

He urged citizens to use the occasion to strengthen bonds within families and communities, particularly at a time when the country continues to navigate economic and social challenges.

“As we remember, kusulubiwa na kufufuka kwa Yesu Kristo, may this season remind us that baada ya kila jaribio, kuna ufufuo na kuna mwanzo mpya. To every family, may the spirit of Easter bring joy and peace. To every weary heart, may it bring hope and renewed faith. And to our beloved nation Kenya, may it bring strength of unity and love,” he said.

Easter remains one of the most important celebrations in Christianity, marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ three days after his crucifixion by Roman authorities.

The observance begins with Good Friday, which commemorates the arrest and crucifixion of Jesus, and culminates in Easter Sunday, celebrated by Christians as a symbol of victory over death and the promise of eternal life.

The Easter season follows the 40-day period of Lent, during which many believers engage in prayer, fasting, and reflection as part of spiritual preparation.

Across Kenya and globally, Easter is marked by church services, prayer gatherings, and family reunions. The season is widely associated with themes of forgiveness, reconciliation, and renewal.

President Ruto’s message aligns with similar appeals from religious leaders who have called for national unity and resilience, particularly as many households face economic pressures and rising costs of living.

His remarks also come amid ongoing public discourse around governance, social cohesion, and the need for collective responsibility in nation-building.
