Viktor Gyokeres and 16-year-old Max Dowman seal dramatic Arsenal win over Everton
Max Dowman became the youngest ever goalscorer in the Premier League as the 16-year-old inspired Arsenal’s late surge to beat Everton 2-0 on Saturday and close in on a first Premier League title for 22 years.

LONDON, United Kingdom — Arsenal moved 10 points clear at the top of the Premier League table thanks to late goals from Viktor Gyokeres and 16-year-old Max Dowman in a thrilling 2-0 victory over Everton at the Emirates Stadium.

Everton appeared on course to secure a hard-fought draw, frustrating the Gunners for most of the match.

That changed in the 89th minute when Gyokeres capitalized on a misjudged cross from Jordan Pickford, tapping the ball home to give Arsenal the lead.

Everton immediately committed everyone forward in a desperate bid for an equalizer.

However, Pickford was stranded upfield when Dowman, Arsenal’s teenage sensation, evaded two defenders before slotting the ball into an empty net, sending the Emirates crowd into rapturous celebration.

Dowman, at just 16, became the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history, surpassing the record set by Everton’s James Vaughan in 2005.

Earlier, Everton had looked lively and nearly opened the scoring in the first half.

Dwight McNeil was denied by an acrobatic block from Riccardo Calafiori, and a curling effort from the winger later struck the post.

With the win, Arsenal extend their lead to 10 points over second-placed Manchester City, although Pep Guardiola’s side have played two games fewer. City will look to close the gap when they face West Ham at London Stadium.
