NAIROBI, Kenya — President William Ruto remains the frontrunner for the presidency if an election were held today, according to the latest year-end findings by research firm Infotrak.

The survey, released on Sunday, December 28, 2025, provides a snapshot of the shifting political landscape as major alliances begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The poll indicates that 28 percent of respondents would vote to re-elect President Ruto. However, the competition for the second spot is tightening:

  • Dr. Fred Matiang’i (Former Interior CS): 13%
  • Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper Party Leader): 12%
  • Babu Owino (Embakasi East MP): 7%
  • Rigathi Gachagua (Former Deputy President): 5%
  • Martha Karua & David Maraga: Tied at 2% each

A critical takeaway for all candidates is the high number of uncommitted voters; 25 percent of Kenyans remain undecided, while 4 percent preferred not to reveal their choice.

The survey also tracked public sentiment regarding the country’s new political formations. President Ruto’s “broad-based” government approach currently holds the most sway, with 32 percent of Kenyans feeling closest to this administration.

The opposition is currently divided into two primary blocs:

  • The United Opposition: Led by Rigathi Gachagua, Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Eugene Wamalwa, this coalition commands 22 percent support.
  • Kenya Moja Alliance: A younger formation led by George Natembeya, Edwin Sifuna, Babu Owino, Gathoni Wamuchomba, and Ndindi Nyoro, which has secured 17 percent preference.

Notably, 29 percent of the electorate does not identify with any of these three major political groupings, suggesting a significant portion of the population is still looking for alternative leadership.

The ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) continues to be the most popular party at 23 percent, with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) following at 19 percent. The newly formed Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), associated with Rigathi Gachagua, has made a debut at 6 percent, slightly ahead of the Jubilee Party (5%) and Wiper (4%).

The study was conducted between December 19 and 20, 2025, utilizing a sample size of 1,000 respondents. The data represents a cross-section of adult Kenyans from all 47 counties and all eight regions. As with previous Infotrak releases, the firm noted:

“Where the achieved interviews differed slightly from the intended sampled proportions per demographic group, the dataset was weighted to correct for over or under sampling thus ensuring the sample was proportionately representative of the target population.”
