NAIROBI, Kenya — Several prominent leaders have arrived in Nairobi in anticipation of the Joint East African Community (EAC) and Southern African Development Community (SADC) Co-Chairs’ Meeting, slated for Friday.
This high-level gathering will concentrate on the ongoing peace process in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and will include a crucial briefing session with the Panel of Facilitators spearheading the mediation efforts.
Among the notable figures already in the Kenyan capital are former President of Botswana, Mokgweetsi Masisi; former President of Ethiopia, Sahle-Work Zewde; and the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Mahamoud Ali Youssouf.
The meeting is co-chaired by Kenya’s President William Ruto, who currently holds the position of EAC Chairperson, and SADC Chairperson President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe.

Its primary objective is to align efforts between EAC and SADC-led initiatives, reinforce regional coordination, and accelerate progress towards achieving a peaceful resolution in eastern DRC.
