Kampala security guard shoots two bosses dead over pay and sacking, killed by police

KAMPALA, Uganda — Three individuals lost their lives on Wednesday morning in a fatal shooting incident at the offices of Ultimate Security Limited in Mbuya, Kampala city.

Police confirmed that the assailant, identified as Richard Mwaawa, a private security guard affiliated with the company, shot and killed two of his colleagues around 9:00 AM.

Mwaawa who is said to have been angered with his sacking by the Company opened fire on the two bosses. The victims were named as Noella Zella, the Assistant Human Resource officer, and Salez Bwampata, the Armoury Officer.

Officers from Jinja Road police station swiftly responded to an emergency call and, upon arrival, found Mwaawa still posing an active threat. He was subsequently shot dead at the scene by the responding police.

Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire stated that investigations are currently underway to establish the motive behind the tragic shooting.

“The Police at Jinja Road are actively investigating a tragic shooting incident that resulted in the death of three individuals, including the suspected shooter,” reads ASP Owoyesigyire’s statement.

The firearm used in the incident was recovered from the scene and has been sent for forensic analysis.

The bodies of the deceased have been transported to the City Mortuary at Mulago for postmortem examinations.

“At this stage, the motive behind the shooting remains unclear. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing, and further details will be communicated as soon as they are available,” said ASP Owoyesigyire although eyewitnesses say it was about the termination.
