Kenya Kwanza leaders rally Western Kenya behind Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and Farouk Kibet lead a Kenya Kwanza rally in Likuyani on August 23, 2026.

LIKuyani, Kenya — Kenya Kwanza leaders have intensified their mobilisation efforts in Western Kenya, urging residents to support President William Ruto’s bid for a second term in the 2027 General Election.

The leaders, led by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, President’s aide Farouk Kibet, Narok Governor Patrick Ntutu and other senior politicians, have been campaigning under the banner of the ‘tutam’ movement, a reference to supporting Ruto for two terms.

Speaking in Likuyani, Farouk Kibet called on political leaders to abandon divisive rhetoric and instead promote national unity, development and inclusive leadership.

“Let us stop turning Kenyans against each other,” Kibet said.

He urged residents of Western Kenya to back Ruto for a second term, arguing that the region should embrace an inclusive political approach while benefiting from the government’s development agenda.

Wetang’ula, meanwhile, called for peaceful political competition and warned against intolerance as the country heads towards the 2027 election.

The Speaker said national interests should take precedence over individual political ambitions.

“Kenya is bigger and we need each other. Violence is a thing of the past,” Wetang’ula said.

Western leaders push succession argument

The mobilisation also featured calls for Western Kenya to position itself for national leadership after Ruto’s presidency.

Malava MP David Ndakwa said leaders from the region were ready to take over the country’s leadership when Ruto’s time in office comes to an end.

Ndakwa urged Ruto to support the region’s aspirations for the presidency as part of what he portrayed as a broader political succession arrangement.

Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe similarly called for unity among leaders from Western Kenya, saying the region should be prepared to rally behind one of its own after Ruto.

“We do not want opposition; we also want to enjoy the benefits of government,” Wangwe said.

Wangwe also credited the Ruto administration with development projects in Western Kenya and thanked the President for what he described as efforts to improve the region.

Leaders pitch development agenda

Butere MP Tindi Mwale said voters were looking for leaders focused on development rather than political divisions.

“We want development-oriented leaders. We do not want people who divide Kenyans,” Mwale said.

The leaders cited various projects and government programmes as they sought to strengthen support for Ruto in Western Kenya.

Their message centred on unity, peaceful politics and development, while urging residents to join the ‘tutam’ campaign and support Ruto’s re-election bid.

The mobilisation comes as political parties and alliances across the country begin positioning themselves for the 2027 General Election, with both the government and opposition camps seeking to consolidate regional support ahead of the polls.
