NAIROBI, Kenya — A 26-year-old woman is currently in police custody following an attempt to smuggle cocaine out of the country via Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed the arrest of Wendy Mbeke Muli on Friday, shortly after she had boarded an outbound flight.
Airport authorities became suspicious of Muli’s demeanor during a routine screening, prompting a more extensive search.
The DCI reported on X, “It was soon established that she had concealed foreign substances inside her body cavity, prompting immediate medical observation.”

Muli reportedly requested to use the washrooms, where she excreted two pellets. On Saturday, while under continued observation, she excreted an additional six pellets.
These pellets were later confirmed to contain cocaine, with an approximate total weight of 626.65 grams.
Detectives from the JKIA Anti-Narcotics Unit are preparing to arraign Muli in court on Monday, June 16.
