Israeli air strikes kill eight in Gaza, including pregnant woman, say Palestinian rescuers

Palestinian rescue workers in Gaza reported that eight individuals were killed and several others sustained injuries in a series of Israeli air strikes across the territory on Sunday.

Mahmud Bassal, a spokesman for the civil defense, stated that five people were killed in a strike that hit a residential building in Jabalia, located in northern Gaza.

He further reported that two additional fatalities, including a pregnant woman, occurred in an attack targeting tents housing displaced individuals in the vicinity of Nuseirat in central Gaza.

According to Bassal, one person was also killed in a strike in Khan Yunis, the main southern city in the enclave.

The Israeli military has escalated its operations within Gaza in recent days, describing it as a renewed effort to dismantle Hamas.

On Saturday afternoon, the military announced that it had conducted strikes on over 100 targets throughout Gaza in the preceding 24 hours.

The Gaza health ministry reported on Saturday that at least 3,747 people have been killed in the territory since the breakdown of a ceasefire on March 18th. This brings the total death toll of the conflict to 53,901, predominantly civilians.

The October 2023 attack by Hamas on Israel, which initiated the war, resulted in the deaths of 1,218 people, the majority of whom were civilians, according to Vivid Voice News count based on official figures.

Militants also took 251 hostages, of whom 57 remain in Gaza, including 34 whom the Israeli military has stated are deceased.
