Kenya Railways suspends Lukenya and Syokimau train services

NAIROBI, KENYA — Kenya Railways has announced the temporary suspension of its morning commuter train services to Lukenya and Syokimau.

In a public notice issued on Thursday, April 24th, the corporation stated that the disruption of the train services is a direct consequence of an obstruction on the railway line in the Mukuru area.

“Kindly note that owing to a blockage of the line at Mukuru, the morning link trains to Lukenya and Syokimau will not run,” the Kenya Railways notice read in part. The corporation assured the public that a dedicated team has been deployed to the site to clear the blockage and expedite the restoration of normal train operations.

Kenya Railways also extended its apologies to passengers inconvenienced by the suspension of services to Lukenya and Syokimau.

“Our team is on the ground working to ensure that normal services are restored as soon as possible. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused and will notify you once normal services resume,” the statement added.

This disruption occurs against a backdrop of heavy rainfall currently affecting Nairobi and various other regions across the country.

Earlier in the week, on Monday evening, numerous travelers were left stranded at Nairobi’s Central Railway Station when flooding caused significant disruptions to train operations heading towards the Syokimau Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) station.

The station’s management was compelled to arrange for bus transportation to ferry passengers to Syokimau.

The Kenya Meteorological Department had issued an advisory on Wednesday, forecasting the continuation of heavy rainfall until the weekend before a gradual decrease in intensity and geographical spread.

“Significant reductions in intensity and spread likely from the weekend,” the Met Department’s statement indicated.
