Gachagua claims State House insiders leak information to him
Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua.

NAIROBI, Kenya — Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed he receives confidential information from individuals within State House, security agencies and other government offices, saying the identities of those sharing the information with him would remain secret.

Speaking during a political meeting at his Wamunyoro residence on Thursday, August 6, Gachagua alleged that a network of what he described as patriotic civil servants and security officers had been voluntarily passing him information because they were dissatisfied with the country’s leadership.

The former deputy president, however, did not provide evidence to substantiate the claims or identify any of the alleged sources.

Claims of insider information

Addressing supporters, Gachagua said government officials had increasingly reached out to him with sensitive information, including details he claimed originated from within the President’s office.

According to Gachagua, individuals inside State House informed him about the government’s Vision 2060 announcement before it was officially unveiled.

“Civil servants are looking for me every day. Even the other day, people inside the President’s office told me about the Vision 2060 announcement before it was made public,” he said.

He further claimed President William Ruto would be unable to identify those allegedly leaking information to him.

“You will never know who is giving me this information. Riggy G is Mau Mau. We organise ourselves like Mau Mau, and Mau Mau works in secrecy,” Gachagua said.

His comparison referenced the clandestine organisational structure of the Mau Mau movement, which fought against British colonial rule in Kenya during the 1950s.

Alleges dissatisfaction among government officers

Gachagua also claimed that some officers attached to the President’s security detail had privately complained to him over delayed allowances and what he described as the misuse of public resources.

He further alleged that officials at the Department of Immigration had recently shared internal documents with him, maintaining that any attempt to identify the purported sources would be unsuccessful because of the secrecy surrounding his network.

The claims could not be independently verified, and Gachagua did not produce any documents or other evidence to support the assertions during his remarks.

Murkomen previously rejected similar assertions

Gachagua’s latest comments come days after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen dismissed similar claims by the former deputy president that he was receiving confidential information from within the country’s security establishment.

Speaking on August 2, Murkomen accused Gachagua of using unverified security-related claims for political purposes and urged Kenyans to disregard what he described as misleading narratives.

The Interior Cabinet Secretary also maintained that matters relating to national security should not be politicised and rejected Gachagua’s earlier assertions regarding the government’s Vision 2060 agenda.

Neither State House nor the Office of the President had publicly responded to Gachagua’s latest remarks by the time of publication.

Opposition mobilisation ahead of 2027

The remarks come as Gachagua continues efforts to rally opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Earlier on Thursday, he proposed that political parties associated with the Wantam movement consider adopting the name “Hyena Coalition,” arguing that criticism of the label by Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale should instead be embraced as a political identity.

Gachagua also reiterated his support for maintaining multiple political parties within a single coalition, saying such an arrangement would strengthen grassroots mobilisation and improve the opposition’s capacity to safeguard votes during the next general election.

His latest statements are likely to intensify political exchanges between the Kenya Kwanza administration and opposition figures as preparations for the 2027 polls gather momentum.
