NAIROBI, Kenya — A post-mortem examination has confirmed that a man who was allegedly stabbed during a road rage confrontation in Nairobi died from multiple stab wounds, as investigators continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the fatal attack captured on CCTV.
The deceased, Kennedy Ng’eno, was allegedly attacked following a traffic collision along Mombasa Road near Nyayo Stadium in the early hours of Saturday, August 1.
Police have since arrested the main suspect, a taxi driver, who is being held at Industrial Area Police Station pending further investigations.
Newly obtained CCTV footage reviewed by investigators provides a detailed timeline of the confrontation that escalated into deadly violence.
The footage, timestamped 4:36 a.m., shows three vehicles stopping along Mombasa Road moments after the reported collision.
A man is seen leaving his vehicle and walking towards a white car involved in the accident. What initially appears to be a verbal disagreement quickly escalates.
Approximately two minutes later, the footage shows one of the men taking photographs before a struggle erupts as other individuals attempt to seize his mobile phone.
The confrontation then turns violent.
According to investigators, one individual is allegedly stabbed before the suspect turns his attention to Ng’eno.
The footage reportedly shows Ng’eno attempting to flee before being pursued and repeatedly stabbed.
Police say the object believed to have been used in the attack has not yet been recovered.
Ng’eno eventually collapses beside the road.
Nearly nine minutes later, friends are seen carrying him into the white vehicle before rushing him to hospital.
He was pronounced dead.
A post-mortem examination conducted after the incident concluded that Ng’eno died from multiple stab wounds.
Family representative Malone Victor said the autopsy revealed a fatal wound that penetrated the victim’s heart.
“After the autopsy, the doctor gave us the report that showed that Ken’s life was ended by a stab to his heart, which penetrated his heart. There were around five stab wounds and many more on his hand,” he said.
The injuries to the victim’s hands are believed to be consistent with defensive wounds sustained while attempting to protect himself during the attack.
The prime suspect was arrested four days after the incident and is expected to be presented before court as investigators seek custodial orders to complete investigations.
His lawyer, Yashin Mutende, said his client had reported the incident to police and had not attempted to evade authorities.
“We had to come here today to confirm that indeed my client did report the incident and he was not at large, as it has been reported that my client stabbed and ran away,” Mutende said.
Makadara Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer Hassan Ahmed Abdullahi confirmed the arrest.
“This incident happened on the 1st of August, and we’ve been looking for this guy. Now he has been arrested. He’ll be taken to court tomorrow for custodial orders so that we finish our investigations,” he said.
Makadara OCPD Judith Nyongesa said investigators had fulfilled an earlier commitment to apprehend the suspect within the week.
“I promised that within the week I shall have gotten the suspect. Today the suspect has been found, and the DCI are processing him,” she said.
Police have also impounded the vehicle believed to have been used by the suspect, which is currently being examined at the DCI Makadara offices.
The victim’s legal team says witness accounts and the available CCTV footage provide compelling evidence supporting a murder case.
Family lawyer Gideon Kipyegon said several witnesses saw the suspect armed with a knife during the confrontation.

“We have enough witnesses to prove that this case was a case of stabbing. It was a case of wrongful provocation. It was a case of someone who had ill motive,” he said.
He added that investigators are expected to pursue recovery of the suspected murder weapon during the court process.
“All the witnesses who were present saw the knife. It’s only that the knife went with the perpetrator, and we hope that during the interrogation in court he will be able to produce the murder weapon.”
The case has renewed public concern over violent confrontations arising from minor traffic disputes in Kenya’s major cities.
Detectives are continuing to analyse CCTV footage, collect witness statements and establish the sequence of events that culminated in Ng’eno’s death.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
