Shakib knocks out Arrow Bwoy in Vurugu 2 celebrity boxing clash in Nairobi
Ugandan businessman Shakib Cham Lutaaya (left) secured a dominant second-round TKO victory over Kenyan singer Arrow Bwoy (right) at Vurugu 2 in Nairobi, one of East Africa’s most anticipated celebrity boxing events.

KAMPALA, Uganda — Ugandan boxer and socialite Shakib Cham Lutaaya has accepted musician Arrow Bwoy’s challenge for a rematch following their highly publicised Vurugu 2 celebrity boxing contest, saying he is willing to take the fight to Kampala if promoters can organise the event.

Speaking in a video shared on Monday, June 29, Shakib said he had no objection to facing the Kenyan singer again and urged promoters, sponsors and government officials to help make the rematch a reality.

The challenge comes after growing interest from fans following the Vurugu 2 showdown, which generated significant attention across Kenya and Uganda’s entertainment and sports circles.

“To you, Arrow Bwoy, you said you want to come fight me in Kampala. I have no problem,” Shakib said.

“All I will advise you is to train more.”

The remarks signal Shakib’s willingness to extend one of East Africa’s most talked-about celebrity boxing rivalries beyond Kenya.

Shakib thanks promoters for KSh1.5 million bonus

Shakib also used the opportunity to express gratitude to Vurugu promoter Oga Obinna and businessman Abbas for rewarding him with a KSh1.5 million bonus following the bout.

According to the Ugandan fighter, the payment was made in addition to what had already been agreed in his contract.

He described the gesture as recognition of the commitment and effort invested in preparing for the fight.

“I just want to thank my promoter, Oga Obinna, and my boss Abbas for honouring the promise they made after my fight against Arrow Bwoy,” he said.

“The KSh1.5 million was just a bonus beyond our contract. The gesture means a lot more than the money. It’s a sign that they value our hard work and dedication.”

Responds to fresh challengers

Shakib said the attention generated by Vurugu 2 had resulted in numerous challenges from Kenyan content creators, influencers and amateur fighters seeking to test themselves against him.

Despite the growing list of potential opponents, he insisted he was prepared for any matchup.

“So many Kenyans are calling me out. They want to fight with me, but all I want to tell you guys is I’m ready,” he said.

“I was born for this and I’m ready for all the fights.”

Winner-takes-all proposal for Majembe

Among those who have publicly challenged him is Majembe, another figure associated with the celebrity boxing scene.

Shakib said he would welcome the contest and even proposed a winner-takes-all format involving both fighters’ championship belts.

“Majembe, you said you want to bring your Vurugu 1 belt. I’ll bring my belt from Uganda, then the winner takes them all,” he said.

“So I’m ready for that.”

The proposal is likely to add further excitement to East Africa’s growing celebrity boxing movement, which has increasingly attracted entertainers, social media personalities and influencers.

Takes aim at Mbavu the Destroyer

Shakib also responded to comments from content creator Mbavu the Destroyer, questioning whether he possesses the boxing ability needed for a competitive fight.

“Mbavu, I don’t think you can fight,” Shakib said.

“But I’m ready for all these fights.”

While the comments were delivered in a light-hearted manner, they add another layer to the rivalries that continue to emerge around the Vurugu boxing brand.

Celebrity boxing gains momentum

The growing interest in celebrity boxing reflects a wider trend across East Africa, where entertainment personalities are increasingly using combat sports as a platform to engage audiences and build their brands.

Events such as Vurugu have attracted significant online engagement, sponsorship interest and fan support, transforming exhibition-style contests into major entertainment spectacles.

Whether the next chapter involves Arrow Bwoy, Majembe, Mbavu the Destroyer or another challenger, Shakib has made one thing clear: he is ready to step back into the ring.
