NAIROBI, Kenya — The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced a temporary interruption of its online services as it prepares to migrate to a new electronic logbook (eLogbook) system aimed at improving vehicle registration and ownership verification.

In a notice issued on Tuesday, the authority said its system will experience intermittent unavailability from Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 4pm to Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 8am to facilitate the transition.

NTSA explained that the downtime is necessary to ensure a smooth migration to the new eLogbook platform, which is expected to enhance efficiency, transparency, and service delivery across its digital systems.

“This is to inform all our stakeholders that the NTSA system will experience intermittent unavailability on Tuesday, 9th June 2026 (4pm) to Wednesday, 10th June 2026 (8am) to facilitate a smooth transition to the eLogbook,” the statement read in part.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to offer quality services to you,” the authority added.

The planned disruption comes as NTSA prepares to fully roll out the eLogbook system, which is expected to transform how vehicle ownership records are created, stored, and updated in Kenya.

The new platform will be fully integrated with the government’s eCitizen system, allowing automatic updates of vehicle ownership records whenever transfers are completed.

According to NTSA, the digitised system is designed to curb fraud in vehicle transactions by replacing paper-based logbooks with secure digital records featuring encryption, secure hashing, and QR-code verification.

Under the new system, buyers and sellers will be able to initiate and complete ownership transfers online without physically visiting NTSA offices.

In addition, financial institutions, insurers, and prospective buyers will be able to verify vehicle ownership instantly by scanning a QR code linked to the digital logbook.

Once scanned, the eLogbook will display key vehicle details including registration number, certificate number, ownership status, make, model, body type, and colour.

NTSA says the reforms are part of wider government efforts to digitise public services and improve transparency in transport administration.

The authority is expected to provide further guidance to stakeholders as the new system becomes fully operational.
