NANDI COUNTY, Kenya — Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament (MP), Johana Ngeno Kipyegon, is reported to be among six people who died in a helicopter crash in Chepkiep, Mosop Sub-County, Nandi County, on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

Sources close to the investigation told Vivid Voice News that authorities have recovered a mobile phone and SIM card belonging to the MP at the crash scene. Similar devices linked to Amos Kipngetich Rotich, an officer with the Kenya Forest Service (KFS), were also retrieved.

Vivid Voice News has reviewed images showing four passengers seated behind the pilot during the aircraft’s last flight. Police are reportedly using these images to identify the remaining occupants.

Additional photographs of the aftermath, including those of the deceased, match images taken before takeoff.

Neither the police nor the National Assembly has officially confirmed the death of Ng’eno.

Political career and parliamentary work

Ng’eno was first elected as MP in 2013 and successfully retained his seat in the 2017 and 2022 General Elections.

He served as Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Housing, Urban Planning, and Public Works, overseeing the review of the 2026 Budget Policy Statement (BPS) and conducting oversight visits to Affordable Housing Projects.

Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament (MP), Johana Kipyegon Ng’eno is among the six individuals killed in a helicopter crash in Mosop, Nandi County.

As a chairperson, he was also a member of the Liaison Committee, responsible for coordinating the operations of all parliamentary committees.

In previous terms, he served on the Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs and the Public Investments Committee (PIC).

Helicopter incident details

The helicopter, registered 5Y-DSB, is an Airbus H125. According to Flightradar24 data, it departed Nairobi at 11:02 am on Saturday.

The exact landing time at its destination is unclear, and the data does not show when the aircraft was scheduled to depart.

The aircraft reportedly attempted an emergency landing in Mosop due to poor weather conditions and crashed shortly after attempting to take off again around 4:45 pm once conditions improved.

Flight records show that the helicopter made two other trips in February 2026. On February 22, it departed at 1:32 pm from an undisclosed location to an unrecorded destination.

On February 21, it flew from Nairobi to Wilson Airport, departing at 9:32 am and landing at 6:16 pm.

Authorities, including the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) and the Air Accident Investigation Department (AAID), are expected to investigate the crash and release findings on the cause once rescue and preliminary assessments are completed.
