NAIROBI, KENYA — The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has initiated investigations into two separate vehicle theft incidents in Nairobi and its environs, one occurring during a high-profile football match and the other at a residential property.
The first incident involved the theft of a Toyota IST from a roadside parking area near Nyayo Stadium during the Kenya-Gabon World Cup qualifier on Sunday.
According to the DCI’s report released on Monday, the vehicle’s owner parked along Kisauni Road, adjacent to Nairobi West Hospital, at 3:40 PM before entering the stadium.
“The car owner indicated that he parked his Toyota IST registration number KBN 093B silver in colour at the said spot, at 3.40pm and proceeded to the fan-parked stadium,” the DCI stated.
Upon returning to the location shortly after 7:00 PM, the owner discovered the vehicle missing and promptly reported the theft to Akila Police Station in Lang’ata. Law enforcement officers have since launched a comprehensive investigation to recover the stolen car.
In a separate incident, police in Juja are also investigating the theft of a white Toyota Axio. This vehicle was reportedly stolen from a residential compound in the Matangi area near Rurii Primary School, Kimbo.
“The owner had left it parked outside the residential home on Saturday night, but on waking up found it gone,” the DCI reported.
The investigation aims to determine the circumstances surrounding this theft and recover the stolen vehicle.
