WhatsApp testing new feature: To introduce role labels for group chats

WhatsApp is currently developing a new feature that will allow group administrators to assign custom role labels to members. This feature, spotted in a recent beta version of the app by WABetaInfo, aims to improve organization and communication within group chats, particularly in larger groups.

With this update, administrators will be able to assign labels such as “Moderator,” “Event Coordinator,” or “Project Manager” to individual members. These labels will appear next to the member’s name in the chat, providing clear visual cues regarding their specific roles or responsibilities within the group.

This enhancement is designed to streamline group management by providing a more nuanced understanding of each member’s function.

It is expected to be particularly beneficial for professional teams, community groups, and other organizations that heavily rely on WhatsApp for coordination and communication.

Currently, WhatsApp only distinguishes between group administrators and regular members.

The introduction of custom role labels adds a new layer of structure and clarity to group interactions, making it easier for members to understand who is responsible for specific tasks or areas within the group.

This feature is still under development and has not yet been officially released. It is likely to be rolled out to beta testers first before becoming available to all users in a future update.

This development aligns with WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to enhance its group chat functionality. Recent updates have included the ability to create communities, expand group size limits, and control interactions with unknown callers.

The introduction of role labels further demonstrates WhatsApp’s commitment to providing a more structured and efficient group chat experience for its users.
