Oleksandr Usyk outclasses Tyson Fury again to retain unified heavyweight titles
Oleksandr Usyk, left, outpoints Tyson Fury for the second time this year.

Oleksandr Usyk once again proved his dominance in the heavyweight division, defeating Tyson Fury on points on Saturday to retain his unified titles. The Ukrainian southpaw delivered a commanding performance in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, marking his second consecutive victory over the Briton.

Usyk had previously outpointed Fury in May, becoming the first undisputed heavyweight champion in 24 years. That landmark victory kept Usyk undefeated and handed Fury his first professional loss.

In Saturday’s rematch, Usyk left no room for doubt, securing a unanimous decision with identical 116-112 scores across all three judges’ scorecards.

Unlike their first meeting, which ended in a split decision, this encounter saw Usyk control the fight with precision and strategy. Although he vacated the IBF title in June, the WBC, WBO, and WBA belts were at stake.

Usyk, 37, successfully defended those titles, maintaining his flawless record and thwarting the 36-year-old Fury’s bid to become a three-time world champion.

The contest was competitive through its midpoint, with Fury occasionally leveraging his significant size advantage to trouble Usyk and land heavier punches.

However, Usyk’s superior cardio, mobility, and tactical shot selection began to take their toll. The Ukrainian frequently targeted Fury’s body, which visibly slowed the Briton as the later rounds unfolded.

Usyk retains his three belts and says yes to fight Daniel Dubois again.

Ultimately, Usyk’s endurance and precision secured him another historic win, reaffirming his status as one of the greatest fighters of his generation. Fury, meanwhile, will return to the drawing board after falling short in his quest to reclaim heavyweight glory.

Following his impressive victory over Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk shared his thoughts in the ring, exuding humility and gratitude. “I win, it’s good,” Usyk said with a smile, summing up his second triumph over the British heavyweight.

When asked about his ability to keep improving, even as he approaches his 38th birthday, the undefeated champion responded with humor: “I don’t know, maybe I am training, preparing well.”

Usyk went on to acknowledge the support system that has fueled his success. “My wife helped me, my children,” he said, expressing appreciation for his family. He then dedicated the victory to his mother, a heartfelt gesture that underscored the personal significance of his achievement.

As Usyk continues to defy age and dominate the heavyweight division, his dedication to both his craft and his loved ones remains central to his inspiring journey.

Despite his second consecutive victory over Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk showed respect and admiration for his opponent in his post-fight remarks. Speaking about Fury, who left the ring without giving an interview, Usyk said:

“Listen, he’s a great fighter, a great opponent. It’s a great 24 rounds, unbelievable 24 rounds for my career.”

The Ukrainian champion’s gracious comments highlighted the significance of their two battles, which have cemented Usyk’s legacy in the heavyweight division. Even in victory, Usyk’s respect for Fury underscored the competitive spirit and sportsmanship that define his career.

After his dominant victory over Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk faced another challenger in the ring – Daniel Dubois. The Briton, who holds the IBF title that Usyk vacated in June, confronted the Ukrainian, reigniting the rivalry that saw Usyk stop Dubois in 2023.

Dubois is scheduled to defend his title against Joseph Parker in February, but he used the moment to call for a rematch with Usyk. The reigning unified champion welcomed the challenge, signaling his willingness to face Dubois again in the future.

With Usyk’s track record and Dubois seeking redemption, a potential rematch promises to be another thrilling chapter in the heavyweight division. For now, all eyes will be on Dubois’ upcoming defense against Parker as the heavyweight landscape continues to evolve.
