President Museveni thanks CAF chief for promoting football in East Africa

Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has expressed gratitude to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) president, Patrice Motsepe, for his dedication to advancing football in East Africa.

During a meeting at the State House in Kampala on Friday night, Motsepe was welcomed by Museveni as part of his final tour of East African countries, including Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.

Dr Motsepe was joined by CAF 4th Vice-President Seidou Mbombo Njoya, Chairperson of the CHAN Organising Committee.

The visit comes ahead of the CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN), which the three nations will co-host in February next year.

During their meeting, which was also attended by other Government officials and FUFA President Moses H Magogo, Dr Motsepe thanked President Museveni for his role in promoting football development in Uganda and the East Africa region.

President Museveni acknowledged Motsepe’s efforts to enhance African football and pledged his support for ensuring the success of CHAN and the preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

The gathering also included CAF Vice-President Seidou Mbombo Njoya, who chairs the CHAN organizing committee, Uganda’s Speaker Anita Among, and Moses Magogo, the president of the Ugandan Football Federation.

President Museveni thanked Dr Motsepe for his work in growing African football and assured him of his commitment to making CHAN, and the preparations for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2027, a success.

Motsepe, in turn, expressed his gratitude to President Museveni for his commitment to advancing football in Uganda through the enhancement of the country’s sports facilities.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe meets Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni at State House, Kampala, to discuss the growth of football in East Africa.

“I express my deep thanks to Museveni and the people of Uganda for upgrading stadiums in the country,” added Motsepe.
