SIAYA, Kenya — Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga has travelled to the United Kingdom (UK) for what the party has described as a routine medical check-up, days after visiting Nairobi Hospital.
ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale confirmed on Sunday that the Siaya Senator was abroad for the medical review, while reassuring the public that he was in good spirits.
“Yes, he is in the United Kingdom for a routine checkup. He is doing fine,” Etale said.
According to Etale, Oburu is expected to return to Kenya on Saturday 12, September 2026.
The trip comes days after the veteran politician visited Nairobi Hospital on September 1, prompting public concern about his health.
Oburu subsequently moved to dispel reports suggesting that he had been seriously ill, saying his visit to the hospital was for a general check-up with his doctors.
“I had only briefly visited the hospital for a general check-up with my doctors and have since returned home,” he said at the time.
The senator also sought to reassure Kenyans that he would publicly disclose any serious health complications, stressing that illness was a normal part of life.

“Being sick is a normal human experience and should not alarm anyone. The day I am truly sick, I will inform you all, for I am a very transparent person,” he said.
Following his hospital visit, Oburu received political leaders and friends who paid him courtesy calls to check on his well-being.
He has, however, largely remained away from the political limelight in recent days.
His latest trip to the UK is therefore being presented by ODM as a routine medical review rather than an indication of a serious health condition.
The senator’s absence comes as ODM continues to navigate Kenya’s evolving political landscape, with Oburu remaining one of the party’s senior figures and its current national leader.
