Kenyan Arbantone musician Stoopid Boy reportedly dies
Kenyan Arbantone artist Stoopid Boy, best known for his hit song “G Baga Jat,” has reportedly died. Details surrounding his reported death remain unclear.

NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenyan Arbantone musician Edgar, popularly known as Stoopid Boy, has died, with confirmation from a close friend triggering an outpouring of grief among fans and fellow artistes.

Stoopid Boy, best known for his breakout hit “G Baga Jat”, also known as “G Bag Na Jug,” died on Thursday, August 27, 2026, according to his close friend and fellow musician Jay Classic, who travelled to the artiste’s home in Gotta City after receiving news of his death.

In a video shared on social media, Jay Classic said he was at Stoopid Boy’s home, where the artiste’s manager, Casto, had also arrived as relatives, friends and members of the public gathered to mourn.

“I am here at Gotta City, and Stoopid Boy has indeed died,” Jay Classic said.

He described the atmosphere at the home as difficult and asked fans to pray for Stoopid Boy’s family.

Jay Classic also revealed that the family had suffered another devastating loss recently, saying Stoopid Boy’s brother had died about two months earlier.

He said the latest death had left their mother grieving the loss of her children.

The circumstances surrounding Stoopid Boy’s death had not been independently established by the time of publication.

Other Kenyan media outlets have also reported his death, with entertainment reports citing statements from people close to the musician.

Rise to fame through ‘G Baga Jat’

Stoopid Boy rose to national prominence in 2024 through “G Baga Jat”, a street-oriented hit that became closely associated with the rise of Kenya’s Arbantone movement.

Music records show the song was released in March 2024 under the name Gotta City Stoopid Boy, with Edgar Waititu credited as its songwriter.

The track was built around the Christopher Birch riddim and became popular among Kenyan youth, helping Stoopid Boy establish himself as one of the emerging voices in the country’s rapidly changing urban music scene.

The song also featured prominently in collaborations and remixes involving artistes such as Mejja, Breeder LW, Gody Tennor and Spoiler.

His catalogue subsequently expanded to include songs such as “Gangster Lover,” “Sangwangwa,” “Sherehe,” “Mareka” and “Wacha Masteam.” Apple Music lists Gangster Lover among his later releases and credits him on several other 2024 and 2025 tracks.

A career marked by personal struggles

Stoopid Boy’s rise to fame was accompanied by significant personal challenges.

In early 2025, he publicly opened up about his struggle with alcohol and substance abuse and expressed a desire to change his life.

Media personality Oga Obinna subsequently helped facilitate his admission to a rehabilitation programme after the musician acknowledged that he was struggling to stop drinking.

Stoopid Boy spent about three months in rehabilitation and later emerged saying he had embraced Christianity and wanted to begin a new chapter in his life. Oga Obinna also offered support with accommodation, education and mentorship as the artiste attempted to rebuild his career.

However, his struggles continued to attract public attention after his release from rehabilitation.

In June 2025, Stoopid Boy spoke publicly about difficulties he said he encountered after leaving rehab, including what he described as broken promises of support. He also discussed his mental and emotional struggles during that period.

Another loss before his own death

Stoopid Boy had also been mourning the death of his older brother earlier this year.

In May 2026, he announced his brother’s death on social media, sharing an emotional tribute and describing the loss as deeply painful. The cause of his brother’s death was not publicly disclosed at the time.

Jay Classic’s latest account indicates that the family had not yet recovered from that loss when Stoopid Boy himself died.

A voice of Kenya’s Arbantone generation

Stoopid Boy emerged during a period when Arbantone was rapidly becoming one of Kenya’s most influential youth music movements.

His music combined street language, dance-oriented rhythms and the sampling of older sounds, while his rise demonstrated how artists from less established backgrounds could build national audiences through social media and digital platforms.

His signature song “G Baga Jat” remains his most recognisable work and helped introduce his name to a much wider audience.

Music platforms continue to list the song among his most prominent recordings, with Apple Music identifying “G Baga Jat (G Bag Na Jug)” as a 2024 single.

For fans who followed his journey, however, Stoopid Boy’s story extended beyond his music. His career was marked by a rapid rise to fame, personal struggles, rehabilitation, attempts at recovery and a determination to rebuild his life.

His death has now prompted renewed tributes from fans and fellow artistes, many of whom have been sharing memories of the musician and his contribution to Kenya’s Arbantone scene.

The family is expected to provide further information on the circumstances of his death and funeral arrangements.
