Jambojet to resume daily Nairobi–Entebbe flights on October 1

KAMPALA, Uganda — Kenyan low-cost carrier Jambojet will resume daily flights between Nairobi and Entebbe on October 1, 2026, marking its return to the Ugandan market after a six-year absence.

The airline said the restored service will carry both passengers and cargo, giving travellers and businesses an additional air link between Kenya and Uganda as demand for regional connectivity continues to grow.

Jambojet Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Karanja Ndegwa said the return to Uganda is part of the airline’s strategy to strengthen regional connectivity while keeping air travel affordable.

“Our return to Uganda is a strategic step forward in our mission to strengthen regional connectivity,” Ndegwa said.

Jambojet said one-way fares on the route will start at approximately US$170, while cargo and parcel services will also be available.

The resumption will introduce another operator to the busy Nairobi–Entebbe corridor, which already has services from carriers including Kenya Airways, Uganda Airlines, Safarilink and RwandAir.

Jambojet’s entry is expected to increase competition on the route, giving passengers more options on fares, flight schedules and service.

The airline estimates that the Nairobi–Entebbe corridor could handle approximately 300,000 passengers in 2026, underscoring the scale of demand between the two East African markets.

Beyond direct travel between Nairobi and Entebbe, Jambojet said the restored connection will provide Ugandan travellers with easier access to Kenya’s coastal destinations through onward connections from Nairobi.

The destinations include Mombasa, Diani, Malindi and Lamu, potentially opening additional opportunities for tourism between the two countries.

Ugandan businesses are also expected to benefit from the additional cargo capacity, particularly traders and companies requiring faster movement of goods and parcels between the two markets.

Uganda Association of Travel Agents (TUGATA) Chairperson Irene Nanyombi welcomed Jambojet’s return, saying the service would strengthen opportunities in travel, tourism and trade.

“We are delighted to welcome Jambojet back to Uganda. The resumption of this service comes at an opportune time, as we continue to strengthen travel, trade and tourism opportunities across the region,” Nanyombi said.

Jambojet first entered the Ugandan market in 2018, but later suspended its regional operations following disruptions to aviation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic as the airline shifted its focus towards strengthening its domestic network in Kenya.

The airline has since expanded its operations and increased its fleet to 11 aircraft in April 2026.

Jambojet said it has now carried more than 10 million passengers since launching operations, highlighting its expansion as one of Kenya’s leading low-cost carriers.

The airline reported an 86.45 per cent on-time performance rate in July 2026, according to figures cited in the announcement.

The Nairobi–Entebbe service was announced on Thursday during a stakeholder engagement breakfast in Kampala organised by Jambojet in partnership with TUGATA.

Jambojet said the route forms part of its broader strategy to expand affordable air travel and improve connectivity across East Africa.

The return to Entebbe comes as airlines compete for a growing share of regional passengers travelling between East Africa’s major commercial and tourism centres.
