Raila Odinga’s youngest sister, Beryl Achieng, dies in Nairobi

Beryl Achieng Odinga Dies in Nairobi
Beryl Achieng, Raila Odinga's youngest sister.

NAIROBI, Kenya — The Odinga family is mourning the death of Beryl Achieng, the youngest sister of the late opposition leader Raila Odinga. Beryl Achieng passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, in Nairobi.

Her demise comes just a month after the family mourned the death of the opposition leader Raila Odinga.

The death was confirmed by her sister, Ruth Odinga, who stated that Beryl Achieng died at Nairobi West Hospital. This loss comes just a month after the Odinga family also mourned the death of the opposition leader.

Ruth Odinga released a statement announcing the demise and providing details about the family.

“It is with a heavy heart, but accepting the will of God we announce the sudden passing of Beryl Achieng Odinga. Daughter to the Late Hon Jaramogi Odinga and Mama Mary Ajuma Oginga. Mother to Ami Auma, Chizi and Taure Sister to Senator Oburu Oginga, Rt Hon Raila Odinga, Akinyi Wenwai and Hon Ruth Odinga Busia amongst other. Sister in law to Dr Anne Oburu, Dr Canon Ida Odinga, hon Tabu Osewe and Judy Oburu,” she said.

The family expressed deep sorrow while simultaneously finding comfort in their faith and gratitude for the time they shared with her.

“While we are deeply saddened by her demise and the immense void left in our lives, we take solace in the belief that she is safe in the Lord’s arms and are thankful for the invaluable gift of the time we were privileged to share with her and for the profound impact she had on all who knew her,” the statement concluded.

Beryl Achieng was the daughter of the late politician Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and Mama Mary Ajuma Oginga.

She is survived by her children, Ami Auma, Chizi, and Taure, and her prominent siblings, including Raila Odinga, Senator Oburu Oginga, Akinyi Wenwai, and Ruth Odinga.
