Nairobi, Kenya — The ongoing investigation into the tragic murder of delivery rider Anthony Otieno has yielded crucial evidence, including exclusive CCTV footage detailing the suspects’ movements and their getaway vehicle.
The footage, now in the possession of detectives, paints a chilling picture of the moments leading up to and following the crime at the Meridian Apartments in South B, Nairobi.
The victim, Anthony Otieno, was a delivery agent reportedly dispatched to the building with a package containing an iPhone 17 Pro Max for the guests in a rented room on the fourth floor.
The timeline of events, captured on CCTV, shows the following:
- Arrival: The footage shows the delivery rider arriving at the Meridian building and taking the elevator to the fourth floor. He is seen making a phone call, apparently trying to locate the client. He carried a blue bag containing the delivery package.
- Escape: Shortly after Otieno’s arrival, a man is seen quickly exiting the room via the staircase, still holding the blue delivery bag. At 12:02 pm, a second individual descends rapidly. A third man, half-naked, follows, carrying a package. The trio appear visibly shaken as they hurriedly zipped the bag before leaving.
- Getaway: A Nissan Note vehicle, bearing the registration number KDL336E, then arrives. Two of the suspects enter the car and speed away. A woman wearing a cap is seen arriving afterward and is left behind with the suspects’ luggage.
The room rental and grisly find
Further investigation revealed the suspects had been guests of the room’s owner, Charity Muthoni Michoki.
According to Michoki’s statement, she received a request via phone number 0108577041 to rent the room for one month.
On November 18, Michoki received a message from the guests stating they would settle the outstanding bill by 4:00 pm.
During a routine inspection, she encountered one of the men who insisted she wait until the evening. Suspicious, Michoki decided to remain around the building.
She later saw the men leaving with a bag. Michoki confronted them and demanded payment. When they failed to pay, she seized the bag and proceeded to inspect the room.
Upon unlocking the door, she found alarming blood stains on the floor.

After alerting neighbours, they made the gruesome discovery: a man’s body hidden under the bed. His hands and feet were bound with rope, and a piece of cloth was stuffed into his mouth. The deceased was identified as the delivery agent, Anthony Otieno.
Unraveling the suspects’ identities
The CCTV footage also provided a glimpse of the suspects’ activities the day before the murder:
- Pre-planning: A day before, at 7:22 am, one of the suspects was seen entering the building with the same bag, accompanied by another man.
- Female involvement: At 1:00 pm, the suspects were joined by a woman dressed in an outfit later seen worn by one of the suspects the following day.
- Departure: On November 17, at 6:46 pm, the woman was seen again, carrying the same bag while leaving the building using the elevator.
Detectives are currently conducting toxicology and CCTV analysis to identify the two men who rented the room and the exact circumstances surrounding Otieno’s death.
Three individuals have been interrogated so far, including Otieno’s wife (who sold the iPhone via WhatsApp) and the room’s owner. The phone shop owner is also expected to be questioned.
The incident is particularly disturbing as it occurred just meters away from the location of another high-profile murder, that of Starlet Wahu Mwangi.
