KISORO, Uganda — Ugandan police have launched investigations after gunmen shot dead Kisoro businessman Africano Nteziyaremye and his wife, Peace Kyompeire, as the couple arrived at their home late Saturday night.
The couple was attacked at about 11pm on October 17, 2026, at the gate of their residence in Zindiro Cell, Kamonyi Ward, Kisoro Municipality in southwestern Uganda.
According to reports, Nteziyaremye and his wife were returning from their wholesale business in Kisoro town in a Toyota pickup when unidentified assailants opened fire on them.
The motive for the attack remains unclear, and police have not identified the suspects.
Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson Nelson Tumushime said detectives had opened an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the killings and track down those responsible.
He said a team of investigators, accompanied by a canine unit, visited the scene to examine the area and collect evidence that could help identify the attackers.
