NAIROBI, Kenya — The Ministry of Health has announced the successful completion of its nationwide Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) and Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign, reaching more than 16 million children across Kenya.

This 10-day initiative, recognized as one of the largest vaccination drives in the country’s history, has been declared a resounding success by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale.

In an official press statement released on July 15, 2025, CS Duale confirmed that “a total of 16.1 million children received Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) which represents 84% national coverage.”

The CS further noted that the Measles-Rubella vaccine reached 5.18 million children, achieving 81% coverage. Crucially, the campaign also covered over 74,000 “zero-dose” children – those receiving immunization for the very first time – marking a significant stride in the nation’s broader immunization efforts.

“The Ministry extends its deepest gratitude to parents, caregivers, health workers, county governments, media, and strategic partners whose collective efforts made the campaign a success,” stated Hon. Aden Duale.

The Ministry also confirmed a key outcome of the campaign: “The TCV will now be available in all our immunizing health facilities across Kenya, free of charge,” the statement added.

Following the campaign, the Ministry urged Kenyans to seek information about vaccines from “trusted and credible sources” and to continue supporting routine immunization efforts. This call to action comes in the wake of initial hesitancy from some parents regarding their children’s participation in the vaccination drive.

The extensive campaign received crucial support from a consortium of global and local partners, including Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance, the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, PATH, and the Red Cross, among others.
