Tanzania’s Zuchu impresses fans with resilience after stage fall at Serengeti Musi Festival

DAR ES SALAAM, TANANIA — Tanzanian music sensation Zuhura Othman, widely known as Zuchu, delivered a memorable performance for her fans at the Samia Serengeti Music Festival, even after experiencing an unexpected fall on stage.

The incident, which occurred at midnight on Sunday, April 27, 2025, was captured in a video that has since gained traction online.

The footage shows the ‘Naringa’ hitmaker energetically engaging with the audience while playfully pouring water over herself. However, as her performance continued, she appeared to misjudge her footing, resulting in a slip and fall onto the stage.

Fortunately, Zuchu seemed unharmed by the incident.

Demonstrating her resilience, she swiftly got back on her feet and seamlessly continued her performance as if nothing had occurred, drawing enthusiastic cheers from the crowd.

Artists who have experienced stage falls while performing

Zuchu’s experience is not unique in the realm of live performances, as numerous other prominent artists have also encountered unforeseen tumbles while on stage.

In 2023, during the SolFest event held at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi, Kenyan rapper Nyashinski fell while making a surprise entrance to perform “Short and Sweet” alongside Sauti Sol. Instead of allowing the fall to disrupt the moment, he smoothly transitioned it into a playful roll, stood up, and continued his performance.

Similarly, in early 2021, Tanzanian artist Rayvanny slipped during his performance at the Tumewasha Concert in Dar es Salaam. His fall was more serious, compelling him to cut his performance short and cancel the event’s after-party. He later reassured his fanbase that he was recovering well.

In 2017, Nigerian singer Seyi Shay tripped over the elongated tail of her jacket during her performance at the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) in Lagos. She quickly regained her composure and continued her set, later attributing the mishap to a wardrobe malfunction.

Looking further back to 2014, Peter Okoye of the Nigerian duo P-Square fell off the stage while performing at the Triple 9 Concert in Lagos. He miscalculated the edge of the stage, leading to a fall that resulted in a hand injury. Despite this, he continued his performance after receiving immediate first aid.

Tragically, not all stage falls have had positive outcomes. South African rapper Costa Titch collapsed during his performance at the Ultra South Africa music festival in Johannesburg in March 2023. Although he briefly regained his footing, he collapsed again and tragically passed away at the young age of 28. An autopsy later revealed that a combination of heart strain, chronic stress, and exhaustion contributed to his untimely death.
