ENTEBBE, UGANDA — The Ugandan photography fraternity is in mourning following the untimely passing of renowned photographer Saad Byakuleka, popularly known as Saad Shots. Initial reports indicate that the tragic incident, a motorbike accident, occurred in Entebbe.

Saad Byakuleka was known for his profound affection for motorcycles, frequently sharing glimpses of his rides with his online community.

His final communication on Snapchat, a video of his motorbike accompanied by the poignant caption: “Missed you babe,” now serves as a heartbreaking farewell that has deeply affected his fans and friends.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the incident in a brief statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), saying: “Yes, it is true. Two motorcycles were involved in a fatal accident at Bugonga Junction near the Air Base.”

”Both riders were pronounced dead at the scene. Efforts are underway to have their bodies taken to Mulago City Mortuary,” he added.

Saad Shots had established himself as a respected figure within the photography scene, earning admiration for his exceptional work across tourism, event coverage, and sports photography.

His passing represents a significant loss not only for his family and close associates but also for the broader Ugandan creative industry.

Meanwhile, early this morning, his body was transported from Mulago Mortuary to Kazo, where preparations are underway for his final resting.

The burial is scheduled to take place at 12 PM, and a large turnout is expected as people from different parts of the country travel to bid farewell to a man who captured so many moments behind the lens.

The accident adds to a growing number of motorcycle-related fatalities in Uganda.

The Uganda Police Annual Crime Report 2024 highlights the perilous nature of motorcycle usage in the country, revealing that motorcyclists accounted for 1,720 deaths in road crashes, representing 33% of all traffic fatalities that year.

When combined with motorcycle passengers, this figure tragically rises to 2,334—nearly 47% of the total number of road deaths in 2024. The report attributes the primary causes of these crashes to reckless riding, speeding, and poor road conditions.

Police have stated that investigations are currently underway to determine the precise circumstances of the crash that occurred at Bugonga Junction.

Funeral arrangements for Saad Byakuleka will be communicated by family and friends in due course.
