NAIROBI, KENYA — John Kiarie, Member of Parliament (MP) for Dagoretti South, has attributed the remarkable success of schools in the region’s extracurricular activities to strategic infrastructural development.

During a live television interview on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, Kiarie, known for his past involvement with the acting troupe Redykyulass, emphasized the critical behind-the-scenes efforts that have propelled the constituency to its esteemed position in sports and performing arts. In the 2025 Term One editions of national games, Dagoretti South boasted the participation of two teams.

“It is not by chance that Dagoretti Schools are leading in drama, basketball, rugby, and soccer. It is because there is a very deliberate investment that we are making to grow these extracurricular activities,” Kiarie stated.

The MP credited the initiation of his tenure with the construction of two pivotal infrastructural projects that have transformed sports within the area.

“When I got in, Dagoretti South Constituency could only host a festival in Lenana School. Today we hosting not only in Lenana we have built two multi-purpose halls as part of practical movement towards getting these infrastructures working,” he explained.

While schools from Kenya’s Western region dominated the recently concluded Brookside 2025 KSSSA Games, Dagoretti South secured two podium finishes in the national competitions.

The Boys’ team achieved a third-place ranking in the Boys’ Basketball category during the KSSSA Term One games, solidifying their position.

Similarly, Dagoretti Mixed School attained a third-place spot in the Girls’ handball category. The school’s accomplishment was surpassed only by eventual champions Kamusinga High School and runners-up St. Joseph Girls of Kitale.

Dagoretti Mixed School had previously reached the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national football finals in 2023 and emerged as the Nairobi Region KSSSA Girls Soccer Champions in 2024.

Notable athletes such as Fasilla Adhiambo, a player for the Harambee Starlets, and Rebecca Odato, who competes for the reigning WKPL champions Police Bullets FC, are among the prominent figures who honed their skills within the region.
