BOMET, Kenya — Police in Bomet County have launched a manhunt for a 29-year-old man suspected of killing his uncle in a stabbing incident linked to a family dispute.

According to Bomet County Police Commander Edward Imbwaga, the suspect, Hillary Cheruiyot Sang, is accused of attacking his 32-year-old uncle, Gilbert Kiplangat Bett, after accusing him of cohabiting with his mother.

Police say the suspect ambushed the victim, stabbing him in the cheek before inflicting fatal injuries to the neck, causing his death at the scene.

Commander Imbwaga said the suspect’s mother, Betty Bett, attempted to intervene and calm the situation, but her efforts were unsuccessful. Officers believe the suspect was overcome by rage over the alleged conduct of his uncle.

Police were alerted shortly after the attack and rushed to the scene, but the suspect had already fled. The murder weapon has not been recovered, and officers say efforts are ongoing to trace it as part of the investigation.

Scenes of crime personnel processed the area, and the body was later transferred to Kapkatet Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination. Investigations are continuing, with police urging members of the public to share any information that could assist in locating the suspect.

Cases of violent crime linked to domestic and family disputes remain a concern for authorities, who have repeatedly called for early mediation and community intervention to prevent conflicts from escalating into fatal violence.
