Three-year-old dies after fall from third-floor balcony in Uthiru

NAIROBI, Kenya — Police are investigating three separate incidents in which two children died after falling from buildings in Nairobi, while an 18-year-old woman was found dead outside her family home in Isiolo County in a suspected murder.

The incidents occurred in Uthiru and Kware in Nairobi and Ariamanwoi Village in Isiolo, according to police.

A three-year-old girl died after falling from the balcony of a third-floor building in Uthiru, Nairobi, while playing with other children.

According to police, the incident occurred on Thursday 6, August 2026 when the child fell from the balcony of a building in the area.

She sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for treatment.

The girl later died at about 8pm while receiving medical attention.

Police said the incident was reported on Friday by the child’s mother, a resident of Uthiru Genesis.

Her body was preserved at KNH pending a postmortem examination.

Five-year-old dies after falling from eighth floor

In a separate incident in Kware, Embakasi, a five-year-old boy died after falling from the eighth floor of a building.

Police said the incident occurred on Friday evening at Paris Plaza.

Officers who responded to the scene found the child lying on the ground with serious injuries. He was reportedly bleeding from the mouth and ears.

The boy was rushed to St Claire Hospital in Kware but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Crime Scene Investigation team from Embakasi processed the scene before the child’s body was transferred to the Mama Lucy Hospital Funeral Home, where it was preserved pending further investigations.

Police have launched an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the fatal fall.

The two incidents have once again highlighted the safety risks faced by children living in multi-storey residential buildings, particularly where balconies, windows and other elevated areas may not be adequately secured.

18-year-old found dead in Isiolo

Meanwhile, police in Isiolo County are investigating the suspected murder of an 18-year-old woman who was found dead outside her parents’ home in Ariamawoi Village.

The deceased, identified as Adoro Ngolong, was reportedly preparing supper at her parents’ home shortly after midnight when she left the house to borrow salt from her grandmother, who lived a short distance away.

Her parents later heard a thud outside the house.

When they went outside to investigate, they found their daughter lying motionless on the ground.

Police officers, accompanied by detectives and crime scene investigators, visited the scene and found Adoro lying on her back.

She had an apparent injury to the left side of her forehead, which investigators suspect may have been caused by a blunt object. Police also reported mucus coming from her nose.

Her body was taken to the Isiolo County Referral Hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.

Boundary dispute under investigation

Police have not established the motive for the killing but are investigating a possible connection to a longstanding boundary dispute involving Adoro’s parents and a 33-year-old man.

According to police, an assistant chief had previously attempted to resolve the dispute.

Investigators allege that the man was dissatisfied with the outcome and had subsequently threatened to take unspecified action against Adoro’s father and his family.

The suspect was arrested and taken to Isiolo Police Station, where he remains in custody pending arraignment.

Police investigations into the three incidents are ongoing.

In the Isiolo case, investigators are expected to rely on the postmortem findings and other forensic evidence to establish the circumstances and cause of Adoro’s death. In the Nairobi cases, police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the children’s falls.
