KAMPALA, Uganda — The Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU) has unveiled digital membership identification cards as part of efforts to modernise operations and enhance member engagement.

The initiative was launched during the association’s 50th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at Hotel Africana, marking a significant milestone in PRAU’s evolution as Uganda’s leading professional body for public relations practitioners.

The digital IDs are designed to provide members with secure, convenient access to their credentials, enable participation in association activities, and facilitate real-time verification of professional status through a digital platform.

Speaking at the AGM, PRAU President Irene Nakasiita said the move reflects the association’s commitment to innovation in an increasingly digital communications landscape.

“I would like to sincerely thank all our members for supporting PRAU from time to time. Your dedication has enabled both past and current governing councils to effectively serve and implement various activities that continue to champion PR excellence in Uganda,” she said.

Nakasiita noted that the introduction of digital IDs aligns with global trends in professional accreditation and membership management, where organisations are adopting technology to improve efficiency and user experience.

The AGM also served as a platform to review the association’s performance over the past year, highlighting achievements in professional development, industry partnerships and advocacy initiatives aimed at strengthening public relations practice in Uganda.

Members engaged in discussions on how PRAU can further position itself as a leading voice in the communications sector, particularly as the industry adapts to rapid technological change and evolving audience dynamics.

The Governing Council outlined key priorities for the coming year, including:

  • Leveraging technology to improve service delivery

The launch of digital membership IDs reflects broader shifts within the global communications industry, where digital tools are increasingly being used to streamline professional verification, networking and continuous learning.

Analysts say such initiatives are critical in strengthening credibility and professional standards, particularly in emerging markets where the PR sector is expanding rapidly.

PRAU reaffirmed its commitment to advancing ethical practice, professional growth and collaboration within the industry, positioning itself as a key player in shaping the future of communications in Uganda.

Officials said the 50th AGM not only celebrates PRAU’s legacy but also signals a forward-looking approach focused on innovation, inclusivity and relevance in a fast-changing media environment.

The digital ID system, which was positively received by members during demonstrations, is expected to improve accessibility and efficiency, supporting the association’s long-term goal of building a dynamic and connected PR community.
