WAKISO, Uganda — Security agencies in Uganda have arrested a suspect in connection with the killing of 18-year-old Martin Bukenya, whose death shocked residents of Mabanda Cell in Gombe Division, Wakiso District.
The incident occurred on February 14, 2026, at about 8pm at the suspect’s residence in Mabanda Cell, Gombe Division, within Nansana Municipality.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala, the suspect, identified as 41-year-old Musasizi Herbert, was arrested in Gulu following a manhunt.
“The suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue,” SP Kawala said.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Musasizi allegedly assaulted the teenager after reportedly finding him inside his home with his 14-year-old daughter. Authorities say the injuries sustained during the assault led to Bukenya’s death.
Bukenya, a student at Hillside Secondary School, lived in Kirinyabigo in Kawanda, Nabweru Division — all within Wakiso.

Police said the arrest followed coordinated intelligence-led operations across multiple districts to locate the suspect after he fled the area.
Officials confirmed that the suspect is expected to be transferred back to the appropriate jurisdiction in Wakiso to face formal charges once investigations are completed.
SP Kawala urged the public to remain calm and avoid circulating unverified claims as detectives establish the full circumstances surrounding the fatal assault.
Authorities also assured residents that the case will proceed in accordance with Ugandan law, amid broader concerns about rising incidents of domestic and community violence reported across urban districts near Kampala.
