NAIROBI, Kenya — Police in Nairobi are investigating a brazen daylight robbery in Westlands, where two men dressed in traffic police uniforms snatched Sh1.9 million from a finance manager moments after he left a bank.
The victim, a manager at an IT solutions firm along Muthangari Drive, had withdrawn the cash for office operations. As he drove to his offices, a vehicle blocked his path.
Two men, one in a traffic police uniform, forced their way into his car, handcuffed him, and seized a bag containing the cash. His mobile phone and car keys were left behind.
The thieves then fled in their vehicle, a sequence captured by nearby security cameras.
Authorities have confirmed that investigations have been launched into the robbery. Police officers also visited the bank to verify transaction records as part of the inquiry.
This incident highlights a growing pattern of theft targeting bank customers in Nairobi. Investigations indicate that some perpetrators monitor banking halls, tracking high-value cash withdrawals before following victims to carry out attacks.
Last week, a former university vice-chancellor was robbed of KSh950,000 in Runda under similar circumstances. He had withdrawn the cash from Warwick Centre in Gigiri on February 4, intended for construction payments.

According to police, the suspects trailed him from the bank and broke into his parked car, leaving him unaware until he heard a commotion. The case is currently under investigation.
Authorities are urging customers handling large sums of money to exercise caution and report suspicious activities immediately.
“We are investigating these incidents and reviewing security protocols in banking areas to prevent recurrence,” a police spokesperson said.
The rise in impersonation robberies has caused concern among Nairobi residents and business operators, who are calling for increased vigilance and stronger measures to secure cash transactions outside bank premises.
