Kenyans flock Uhuru Gardens ahead of the 61st Jamhuri Day celebrations

NAIROBI, Kenya — Preparations are in full swing for Kenya’s 61st Jamhuri Day celebrations at Nairobi’s Uhuru Gardens, with the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) overseeing the event.

Gates to the venue opened at 6 a.m., allowing attendees to start streaming in early.

The celebrations are set to officially begin at 8 a.m., by which time all guests are expected to be seated. President William Ruto will lead the ceremony, with three visiting heads of state anticipated to attend.

Jamhuri Day marks 61 years since Kenya became a republic, following its independence in 1963.

Security at Uhuru Gardens has been intensified, with rigorous screening procedures for attendees.

Additional security personnel have been stationed across Nairobi to ensure safety and seamless proceedings during the event.
