    ODM endorses Raila-Ruto political deal
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Central Committee has resolved to work with President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in the broad-based government.

NAIROBI, Kenya — The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Central Committee has formally resolved to collaborate with President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) within the framework of a broad-based government.

This decision emerged from a meeting held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, where key leaders, under the leadership of Party Leader Rt Hon Raila Odinga, convened to review the state of the nation and current political developments.

“The Central Committee of the Orange Democratic Movement met today, under the leadership of Party Leader Rt Hon Raila Odinga, to review the state of the nation, current developments in the party, and, in particular, the MOU with UDA and support for the Broad-Based Government,” read part of the statement released by ODM.

During their review of the national landscape, the committee further acknowledged the party’s collective decision to have Party Leader Raila Odinga work closely with the Kenya Kwanza Government.

This collaboration, the committee emphasized, is aimed at stabilizing the country.

“That the party supports the position of Party Leader Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga to work with the Kenya Kwanza administration to stabilise the country and create an enabling environment for Kenyans to address their concerns through democratic and constitutional means,” the committee stated.

Furthermore, the committee highlighted the party’s intention to implement a landmark political pact, centered on a 10-point agenda designed to foster national unity and address long-standing governance challenges.

    10-point agenda implementation

The ODM party leaders noted their commitment to developing a technical team, in conjunction with their UDA counterparts, to spearhead the implementation of this 10-Point agenda.

“That in order to expedite the implementation of the 10-point agenda of the MOU, ODM will constitute a technical team to work with UDA counterparts as part of the political infrastructure to assist with the implementation of the agreement. The committee identified the absence of such a technical committee, which is contained in the MOU, as the missing link in the implementation of the document,” the ODM committee added.

Additionally, the committee underscored concerns regarding the full implementation of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report, the promotion and protection of livelihoods for young people, the right to peaceful assembly and protests, the adherence to the rule of law and constitutionalism, and issues of corruption and wastage of public resources.

“Of great concern is the full implementation of the NADCO report, promotion and protection of the livelihoods of young people, the right to peaceful assembly and protests, the rule of law and constitutionalism, corruption and wastage of public resources,” the Committee clarified.

Notably, this 10-point agenda agreement with President Ruto signifies a significant shift following years of political rivalry.

It seeks to implement the recommendations of the NADCO report, which include proposals for the creation of the Office of the Official Opposition Leader and the reinstatement of the Prime Minister’s position.
