Dr John Spire Kiggundu, head of Henrob Hospital and a leading gynecologist, has died suddenly in Kampala.

KAMPALA, Uganda — Police have arrested a woman suspected of being the last person seen with the late Dr. John Spire Kiggundu, whose body was discovered under unclear circumstances at Dream Guest House in Lubowa, along Entebbe Road.

The suspect, identified as Eva Mbabazi, believed to be in her early twenties, was apprehended after several social media users named her as having been with the prominent medical practitioner shortly before his death.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango, Dr. Kiggundu checked into the guest house around 5:45 PM on June 21, 2025.

“CCTV footage shows the suspect leaving the room that had earlier been booked by the deceased,” Onyango stated. “We have recorded her statement, and a general inquiry file has been submitted to the state attorney for further guidance.”

Dr. Kiggundu, a well-known figure in Uganda’s medical community and the President of the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Uganda (ALSU), is believed to have succumbed to a heart attack, though police investigations are ongoing.

Authorities have urged the public to refrain from spreading speculation as the investigation progresses.
