Kirinyaga Christmas Day killing

KAMPALA, Uganda — Police in Kampala are investigating the fatal stabbing of a hotel manager and a security guard at a hotel in Lungujja Parish, in what authorities believe may have been a robbery.

The bodies of 30-year-old Shivani Asasira, manager at Dave Hotel and Suites, and 27-year-old Lawrence Musinguzi, the hotel’s security guard, were discovered with stab wounds on Saturday evening. The attack occurred between 10:00 pm and 11:30 pm in Mbubi Zone, Rubaga Division.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala said preliminary findings indicate the pair were attacked by unknown assailants during a night when both failed to respond to phone calls from the hotel’s owner.

“Preliminary findings indicate that on February 7, 2026, at about 10 pm, the owner of the business received a call from the manager, Shivani Asasira (now deceased), informing him that she was looking for the hotel’s security guard, Lawrence Musinguzi, but could not locate him and that his phones were switched off. At about 11:30 pm, the owner attempted to call back the manager, but her phone was also not being answered,” Ms Kawala said.

Several hours later, the hotel owner visited the premises and found both victims dead in separate rooms, each with stab wounds to the neck area.

Police said a white Toyota Harrier (registration UBH 633M) belonging to the hotel was missing and believed to have been stolen by the suspects.

The bodies were taken to Mulago Hospital Mortuary pending post-mortem examinations as investigations continue. “Efforts to identify and arrest the suspects are underway,” Ms Kawala added.

Police sources told this reporter that evidence at the scene suggested there was a struggle during the attack, and officers are combing CCTV footage and witness accounts to trace the movements of the stolen vehicle and those responsible.

The double stabbing at Dave Hotel and Suites highlights rising concerns about violent street crime and robberies in parts of Kampala.

Past incidents have included fatal attacks on security personnel and managers, reflecting broader challenges around urban safety and informal employment sectors in Uganda’s capital.

Police have urged members of the public with information to come forward to assist with the investigation.
