Nyandarua residents protest as contractor uses building blocks for road repairs
Villagers in Nyandarua protest the use of building blocks in ongoing road repairs.

NYANDARUA, Kenya — Residents of Booster Uhuru village in Tumaini ward, Nyandarua County, have erupted in protest, expressing profound anger over the shoddy repair of a crucial two-kilometer road.

This vital artery serves as an essential link for transporting agricultural produce from the region to markets.

Located within the agriculturally rich Olkalou Constituency, Booster Uhuru village is a hub of dairy farming and the cultivation of various horticultural crops.

However, local inhabitants are now vocalizing serious concerns that their livelihoods are under direct threat due to what they describe as substandard work executed by a county contractor.

Nyandarua residents question the use of construction blocks in road rehabilitation project.

The core of the community’s outrage lies in the contractor’s alleged use of machine-cut stones instead of the expected durable hard stones that are typically specified for robust infrastructure projects.

Villagers view this substitution as a blatant misuse of public funds and a reckless disregard for established quality and safety standards.

The rapidly deteriorating condition of the road has already led to increased production costs for farmers, who are forced to contend with significant delays and damages to their goods while attempting to reach critical markets.

A section of the road in Nyandarua allegedly repaired using building blocks, sparking outrage among residents.

With household incomes dwindling and frustration reaching a boiling point, residents are now demanding immediate and decisive action from the Nyandarua County government.

They insist that the road must be properly repaired to the required standards and that the responsible contractor be held fully accountable for the poor workmanship.
