NAIROBI, Kenya — The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has issued guidance on how taxpayers can update or replace outdated phone numbers linked to their iTax accounts.

The clarification follows queries from users who no longer have access to the mobile numbers used during initial registration, raising concerns over account access and security.

Responding to one such query, KRA advised that taxpayers can update their phone numbers directly through the iTax portal during the login process.

“Kindly log in to your iTax portal, and once prompted to verify the mobile number, delete the old number and enter your current number. Then click on ‘send verification’ to receive a one-time password (OTP), enter the code, and proceed to log in,” the agency said.

The update allows users to regain control of their accounts, particularly in cases where previously registered numbers have been reassigned to other individuals.

NTSA explains how to verify eLogbook authenticity

Separately, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has outlined how motorists and potential buyers can confirm the authenticity of electronic logbooks (eLogbooks).

In a public advisory issued on May 22, the authority said users can verify an eLogbook by scanning the QR code printed on the document.

“To verify the authenticity of an eLogbook, interested parties may scan the QR code. The verification and validity information will be generated instantly,” NTSA said.

The authority added that individuals seeking more comprehensive vehicle details can apply for an official motor vehicle records search, as provided under Section 5 of the Traffic Act (Cap 403).

Transactions that generate an eLogbook

NTSA further listed services that automatically generate an eLogbook within its system, including:

  • Motor vehicle registration
  • Transfer of ownership (including alternative transfers)
  • Asset financing (in charge and discharge)
  • Re-registration and de-registration of vehicles
  • Change of vehicle particulars following inspection
  • Issuance of duplicate logbooks

The updates from both agencies come amid ongoing efforts to enhance digital service delivery, improve transparency, and strengthen user verification systems across government platforms.
