NAIROBI, Kenya — An autopsy report has confirmed that former Lugari Member of Parliament (MP), Cyrus Jirongo, died from severe blunt force trauma following a high-impact road accident. The examination, conducted at the Lee Funeral Home, revealed extensive injuries to the politician’s chest, abdomen, spine, and lower limbs.
The post-mortem was carried out by Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor alongside family pathologist Dr. Joseph Ndung’u.
Detailing the severity of the trauma, Dr. Ndung’u noted that the former legislator sustained multiple fractures, including two on his right hand and others on his legs.
Describing the internal damage, Dr. Ndung’u stated:
“There was a crush injury to the chest with multiple rib fractures, perforation of the heart with rupture of the major vessels connected to the heart. There was also bleeding into the chest cavity.”

The pathologist further explained that the impact caused catastrophic internal hemorrhaging and neurological damage.
“We formed the opinion that he died as a result of crush injuries to the chest and abdomen, and spinal injuries due to blunt force trauma,” Ndung’u said.
Details of the investigation
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has officially launched a probe into the circumstances of the fatal collision, which occurred during the early hours of December 13, 2025.
The accident took place at the Karai area on the Nakuru–Nairobi Highway at approximately 2:19 am.

Preliminary findings indicate a head-on collision between Mr. Jirongo’s private vehicle and a public service vehicle (PSV) bus operated by Climax Company Limited.
The force of the impact was so significant that it reportedly propelled Jirongo’s vehicle 25 meters from the initial point of contact.
Forensic progress
A specialized team of homicide detectives and experts from the National Forensic Laboratory have been deployed to the scene. Key developments in the investigation include:
- CCTV analysis: Detectives have obtained footage from a nearby service station showing Jirongo’s vehicle entering and exiting the premises shortly before the crash.
- Driver interrogation: The driver of the PSV bus has been questioned and released on cash bail. He is mandated to report back to authorities on December 22, 2025.
- Evidence collection: Forensic experts have secured physical exhibits from the site to reconstruct the sequence of events.
The DCI has indicated that once the scene analysis is complete and all witness statements have been recorded, the investigation file will be submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for further legal guidance.
